Yoga For Weight Loss – Are You Ready To Begin Your Journey?

One way or another you found this website. A friend may have linked you here (you gotta love friends who are diplomatic in their ways of saying, “Lose some weight there fatty”), Google may have brought you here, or goodness knows how you got here. But here you are. Where are you? You’re at a website that is willing to help you lose weight and keep the weight off through the practice of yoga. However, you have to be ready to begin the journey. Are you ready to walk down this lonely road that will no doubt be fraught with emotional turmoil, physical exertion, and changes in lifestyle? If not, that’s quite ok, come on back when you’re ready to begin the practice of yoga. But if you’re sick and tired of being over weight and unhealthy, then please read on and begin to listen to your heart. Feel that extra beating? That’s not the 64 ounces of Mountain Dew you just sucked down, that’s your body excited that you’re going to stop poisoning it.

In the first paragraph above, you may have read a couple of things that offended you. “Is this guy making fun of fat people” you might have wondered as you spat twinkie spittle onto the screen. No, I’m not. Because the Mountain Dew drinking, Twinkie eating, heart rate elevates when you sit up from a chair behemoth is not you. It’s not you. It’s not who you are. It’s not the real you. Therefore, if it’s not you, how can I be making fun of you? The real you is an amazing, happy, majestic, healthy being just waiting to burst forth and shine your light upon this world. The voice that gets upset when I make snide remarks is the same voice that tells you to eat that ding dong when you’re upset, that tells you to chug that half gallon of whole fat milk with your brownies, and tells you that you’re worthless. The sooner we separate you from that voice, the sooner you can begin to lose weight and keep it off. The proper practice of yoga will help you do exactly that.

Your first yoga lesson is to begin to observe that voice in your head. When I make a snide remark and that voice gets angry, upset, emotional, or in any way speaks up, I want you to simply observe it. Separate yourself from it and be the watcher of that voice. Let it say what it’s going to say, but don’t attach to what it says. Don’t let yourself feel what it’s telling you to feel. Simply observe. No, it’s not easy, and no, you won’t get it right every time. But with practice, you can begin to separate yourself from that voice. You can slowly become the seer. So get that cupcake out of your face and keep reading.

Did you observe the voice? :)

By now, you might be wondering how this website is going to help you lose weight through yoga and how much time per day you’re going to have to put into it. It’s quite simple really. Each day you will click through one page and do the practice on that page. Reading what I have to say will take between 30 seconds and 5 minutes. Then the practice itself will be 15 minutes. Yes, that’s it. Give me at most 20 minutes per day and through yoga you’re going to lose weight AND keep the pounds off. Yes, it’s possible. Because once we help you connect to the real you, then your healthy spirit is going to shine through with such ferocity that you won’t be able to stay fat even if you want to.

If you’re ready to begin this great yoga journey towards weight loss, then click the link below and let’s start the practice. Namaste.

Yoga For Weight Loss – Day One

Congratulations on the start of your journey! I’m super excited for you! I have no idea how much you know about yoga, so let me educate you a little bit in case you think all you’re going to be doing is a bunch of weird poses such as sticking your legs behind your head in an effort to lose weight. First off, there are actually eight limbs to yoga of which asana (the yoga poses most people think of when they think of yoga) is the third limb. Yes, there’s much more to yoga than you probably realized :) And that’s why the proper practice of yoga can lead to weight loss, because it is the science of change.

The Eight Limbs of Yoga

1. Yama – Moral laws
2. Niyama – Personal Observances
3. Asanas – Body postures
4. Pranayama – Breathing techniques
5. Pratyahara – Sense control
6. Dharana – Internal Awareness
7. Dhyana – Meditation
8. Samadhi – Union with the divine

There are five yamas, the first of which is “ahimsa”. Starting to take ahimsa into account in your life is today’s first practice. What does it mean? It means non-violence. However, this is not just non-violence towards others, this is also non-violence towards yourself. It’s time to start being kind to yourself. It’s time to start practicing a little self love. And whether you believe it or not, YOU DESERVE YOUR LOVE. You are a divine miracle. If you think about it, you’re a whole bunch of atoms that have decided for one reason or another to hang out together and through some miracle form what you are. You are a miracle, be happy about that and begin to love thyself.

When you look in the mirror, observe the voice. Does it not like what it sees? Is it mean? Well, as Patanjali, the author of the Yoga Sutras once said, “cultivate the opposite”. Begin to practice ahimsa. Love thyself. This isn’t a 15 minute practice today. This is a from now on practice. Now, it’s not always easy to be kind to oneself, I certainly have trouble on occasion. But this is a yoga PRACTICE, not a yoga be perfect. Just observe yourself and try your best. Observe when you’re violent in your words or thoughts and begin to cultivate the opposite. Observe the voice, become the seer.

Begin that practice now.
